Jazz on a Saturday Night

Jazz on a Saturday Night
by Leo and Diane Dillon

The setting of this book is a jazz club in the 1940's. The band playing consists of such greats as Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald.

I was just amazed by these illustrations. It's as if the music jumps at you off the pages! The illustrations are collage like and the backgrounds swirl making the pictures flow along with the rhyming text.

Also, there is so much you could do with this book. Not only does it give a short biography of the musicians it also shows a variety of instruments.

I want to read this book now! I am in a jazz class now actually, and I just learned about Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald. This seems like a great book to read to see a little more about them or refresh my memory.

Jazz on a Saturday night sounds like a book that could be used to integrate the arts into a lesson.

I am defiently going to read this book. This book can teach children about the early stages of music and where it all started. I think Jazz music is great; and Miles Davis is a great composer and musician.
